16mo3 steel is a pressure vessel steel that is used in applications with elevated temperatures according to EN 10028 2. It has improved mechanical properties and better creep resistance allowing it to be used up to 500°C. This makes it ideal for a wide range of uses where the plates will have to perform at a high temperature continuously
16mo3 material is used as a weldable steel in the fabrication of industrial boilers and steel pressurised vessels found in the oil, gas and chemical industry. Due to the materials chrome and molybdenum content, 16Mo3 has excellent heat resistance and corrosion resistant characteristics.
Typical applications for 16Mo3 include a wide range of power plant equipment, industrial exhaust, venting and flare systems and waste recycling and incineration plants. It is also valuable for machinery where parts are likely to remain hot for an extended period.
In power plants it is regularly used in boilers, superheater tubes, collector and hot steam Pipes, stove tubes and conduits. 16Mo3 is also used in various types of heat exchanger in both the upstream and downstream oil and gas industry.
One example of how 16Mo3 plates is used is in the steel making process itself. The blast furnace requires plenty of hot air to convert the iron to steel and much of the output air is recovered and used to reheat the input and reduce costs. Traditionally the blast furnaces are made of standard carbon pressure vessel steels, but 16Mo3 provides a good alternative as it is more resistant to the huge thermal stresses that it undergoes on a daily basis. The 16Mo3 is also more resistant to the corrosion formed by nitrates as nitrogen oxide is removed from the steel mix. And this combination of properties can increase the life expectancy of critical plant equipment and reduce downtime.
For 16Mo3 heat resistance is provided by the 0.32% molybdenum alloying element. Grade 16Mo3 is available ex–stock from Prosaic Steel and Alloys and the material comes with test certification and stamping. Please refer to technical information for this grade below...
16Mo3 Steel is mainly used for boilers and pressure vessels with elevated temperatures according to EN 10028–2 (2003). It is equivalent to 15D3 (AFNOR 36206 ) and UNI5869 16Mo3 16Mo3 with Molybdenum alloy steel plates which is mainly used for constructing pressure vessels and boilers. The delivery condition of this grade shall be Normalized.16Mo3 is a chrome molybdenum based steel which has excellent heat resistance and corrosion resistant characteristics.
